This Is Generation Flux: Meet The Pioneers Of The New (And Chaotic) Frontier Of Business
The future of business is pure chaos. Here's how you can survive--and perhaps even thrive. By Robert Safian
In my opinion, this is not only true, but has been true since the beginning of any life form. The author even refers to Darwin who stated that it's the skill to adapt which makes one successful.
This article mentions how today's environment is ever changing and at an increasing pace despite any crisis or economic recession. It comes to the conclusion that today's system is not adapted for tomorrow as it focuses on evaluating risk and uncertainty (having studied in a University of Economics, I have experience such training myself). However tomorrow is full of ambiguity, which is not even knowing the variables to base computations on. (Like General Electrics executives gathering around a common kitchen for a culinary experience, or a journalist which is commenting an event while watching his computer screen).
However, some companies have managed to thrive due to their capacity to be constantly changing (Apple, Facebook...) but remain loyal to their core business; with a clearly defined one.
We can extrapolate this to future careers. I think that my future career should be constantly changing to be successful and I know I will probably go through a numerous amount of jobs in my life, relating (or not!) to my education. The key to success in the case of careers is to remain open minded, but stick to your skills. If you're not good at one thing, move on and accept it (fast if you can!).
Being part of the generation flux means that my future will be chaotic and unpredictable, at the mercy of new technologies, and I will adapt to it, like businesses adapt to their environment, and the world adapted to the Industrial Revolution, (a parallel made in the article). This will lead to progress.
